Swiss Chalet
We were thrilled to be working with these clients for the third time, having helped on the design of their primary residence in Zurich and then completed their Chelsea pied-à-terre a few years later. The brief was clear, to preserve the warmth and comfort of their traditional chalet, but free it from the dated feel of yellow pine and rustic patterns. The clients’ dislike for anything remotely yellow or orange guided the palette from the outset, steering the project towards cooler, more refined tones layered with texture and depth.
The timber ceiling in the sitting room was painted, and new joinery from Mytholgy added along one wall to bring texture and warmth to the space. Hand-painted silk wallpaper from de Gournay captures mountain silhouettes in shimmering tones, whilst the large Ness sofa from our Orford range of furniture offers the perfect place to curl up after a day spent on the slopes.
“It’s the perfect balance between contemporary refinement and the soul of a mountain home” - client
Each bedroom was designed to feel distinct yet connected through a winter-inspired palette of blues, whites, pinks, and blacks.
The master bedroom feels serene and understated with a bold Felt rug adding texture and warmth against the tactile Stereo Interiorts linen wallcovering, and natural wood behind the headboard. The wall’s outdated uplights were replaced with elegant Porta Romana plaster sconces, one adorned with a small bird motif as a playful nod to the surrounding landscape.
Also shown are our large bedside tables with mirrored tops from the Orford Collection.
The client fell in love with Andrew Martin’s “Mythical Land” wallpaper so we wrapped the entire guest bedroom in its whimsical scenes, painting the existing joinery to blend seamlessly. Layered with a Vanderhurd rug, Lacquer Company bedside tables, and Orford lamps. The Bartholomew from our Orford collection was made in a cosy textural boucle, framed by contrast crimson piping.
Other Orford products shown include the lacquered Ore side tables in the sitting room, and the Amelie table lamps in white and blue.
We reimagined the second guest bedroom as a snug-meets-office, a multifunctional retreat for reading, working, or movie nights. A George Smith sofa bed in Peter Dunham fabric offers both comfort and practicality, while a clean-lined Brundish desk from Orford faces the window to make the most of the light. New walnut joinery was made with an intricate veneer pattern for subtle depth
